Dawn dePoto-Sietas, FIT/OGA

Dawn dePoto-Sietas is a dyslexia therapist who is NY State certified in Common Branches, Special Education, and TESOL. She has dedicated 25 years to elementary education in the NYC public school system.  Additionally, she is in her second year working as a Fellow-In-Training (FIT) in the Orton-Gillingham Academy under the mentorship of Kim Nau, an Accredited Training Fellow (ATF) in the Academy.

She is also a certified Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner (WDP) which recognizes those individuals who are prepared to diagnostically teach students identified with a language-based learning disability, such as dyslexia, at the beginning levels of encoding and reading.  Also, she is a certified Structured Literacy/Dyslexia Specialist from the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI).  In addition, she is a certified Dyslexia Advocate through the Dyslexia Training Institute.  She is trained in LIPS, Visualizing and Verbalizing, Multi-Sensory Math through Marilyn Zecher, and LETRS.

Dawn’s passion for teaching students with dyslexia began in 2017 when she extensively researched the best classroom strategies to help students with language-based learning disabilities.  Since then, she has accumulated more than 4,000 hours of OG instructional experience working with individuals ranging from 6 to 47 who present with language-based learning disabilities, including dyslexia, global developmental delay, autism spectrum disorder, apraxia of speech, ADHD, and related profiles.

She is also a published author. The book she co-authored, Orton-Gillingham Lesson Planning Guide: Differentiated Word Lists with Decodable Phrases and Sentences for Little Kids and Big Kids, is available on Amazon.

Dawn lives on Long Island with her family and her two Keeshonds.
